Taxonomy and Biodiversity Informatics
The workroup is led by Prof. Urmas Kõljalg ([email protected]). Our workgroup studies species, their dispersal and interspecies relations. For this, we use morphological, biochemical, genetical, etc. methods. Our main research focus is on fungi and lichens, but to a lesser extent also bacteria, plants and insects.

Applied Ecology
The workgroup is led by Arvo Tullus ([email protected]). The workgroup of Applied Ecology studies how different ecosystems (natural or planted forests, wetlands, degraded landscapes) adapt to environmental changes (climate and land-use change) and analyses the results of such ecophysiological fundamental research from an applied perspective, thereby making conclusions and recommendations for managing habitats and using ecosystem services (such as carbon sequestration and climate regulation, or using plant biomass for production).
