Seminar: Mare Kõiva | Mythologies – old and new

Mythologies are probably one of the most extensively studied phenomena of human culture, and they have been assigned a variety of meanings: they speak about a worldview, the origin of living beings, systems of gods and spirits, and much more. At the same time, their function is to convey who the oldest inhabitants of a territory are and to whom the inherited and respected land belongs. Mythology has been described as flexible and capable of adaptation—this has been used to explain why mythology continues to thrive in both popular and professional culture, and why certain customs persist.
