Seminar: Toivo Ylinampa | The Toivo Show: Shooting Bugs, Bushes, and Burials (with a camera). Robotics-powered photogrammetry for insects and Cypriot artefacts, and 3D Gaussian Splatting of a botanical greenhouse — ported into Unity Game Engine

Insects and plants are inherently 3D, so we use RGB-camera–based photogrammetry to digitise them—but for tiny insects that means macro optics and thousands of focus-stacked images, making automation with robotics the only sane option. For shiny/transparent plant surfaces where photogrammetry struggles, we instead use 3D Gaussian Splatting to capture and render the greenhouse in 3D.
